vision
i hold in my hand an egg of sand
we walked forever to find some water
the water in the river has slowed to a shiver
the water i held in my hand was the egg of sand.
Egg of Sand Productions was envisioned and created by Terri Hron and Catherine Thompson at The Banff Centre, Canada in 2008. Between them they cover a broad spectrum of cultural and artistic experiences: from nomadic, folk and oral traditions to the world of classical contemporary art. Their musical journey spans traditional Irish to classical South-Indian, with many stops in between.
Catherine and Terri came together in their interest in land and the cultures most closely connected to it. The company exists as a vehicle to explore the struggle of civilized society to reconcile itself with the natural world. It is a reflection of their deep-seated belief that current modes of production are not sustainable, and that a new direction has to be found wherein people exist within the natural world rather than exploit it.
The work of Egg of Sand is a statement, a thought, a dream, an expression of path. It incorporates live and recorded sound with intense visual and spatial elements. The experience of place and time is an essential element: their pieces are location- and situation-specific in the hope of reaching and reading their audience in a very personal and intimate way.
Their first production, Pidgoyomon, a staged musical work drawing on iconic folk stories around three animals was premiered at The Banff Centre in February 2009.
