pidgoyomon
Pidgoyomon interweaves iconic folk stories with images and sounds collected on location to create a texture where universal myths are granted context and specificity, especially in the interplay between man, nature and the city. The impact of civilization on the landscape, both physical and spiritual, and the sustainability of our choices with regards to that relationship are at the core of this staged musical work.
Pidgoyomon is a sequence of songs and spoken word based on stories associated with 3 animals native to Canada: the passenger pigeon, coyote and salmon. These stories embody themes of extinction, industry, the wild, the domestic, and accountability within a triptych cycle of birth, life and death. Images and sounds collected in the city or area of each performance create a canvas against which the piece unfolds, setting these myths as it were at the heart of the audience’s experience. A dialogue arises between the words of the artists and the home of their audience, sharpening and personalizing the experience.
